August 2, 2023 – Accion Opportunity Fund (AOF) announced the addition of Samuel Ramos, Chief Legal Officer at Global Atlantic Financial Group, to its Board of Directors. AOF is a leading nonprofit lender providing affordable financial services, knowledge resources, networks, and policy to underinvested small businesses and communities nationwide.
As a new member of AOF’s board, Sam will bring his decades of experience in the financial sector, as well as a wealth of legal, compliance, and M&A expertise. After attending Hofstra Law School, Sam became a law clerk on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals before joining the New York law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell. Following that, he joined Goldman, Sachs & Co. where he served as a Managing Director & Associate General Counsel, and became a founding member of the Goldman Sachs Reinsurance Group, which separated as an independent company in 2013 and was renamed Global Atlantic Financial Group.
“We are excited to welcome Sam to our board and benefit from his wealth of experience,” said Luz Urrutia, CEO of AOF. “His knowledge of the financial services industry and his legal and compliance expertise will be invaluable to us as we work to grow AOF’s presence across the US and build a more equitable financial system that will help small businesses thrive.”
Sam’s appointment to AOF’s board builds on a relationship with Global Atlantic Financial Group. Last year, AOF became the inaugural partner of the Global Atlantic Foundation with a seven-figure gift, which was renewed this year. AOF is honored to build a strategic multi-dimensional and multi-year partnership that supports its key strategic priorities including deploying capital and business coaching to entrepreneurs in five key states where Global Atlantic operates.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our communities, and the economy as a whole,” Sam said. “I’m honored to join the board at Accion Opportunity Fund, which is doing vital work to help businesses succeed, especially those that are frequently shut out of the mainstream financial system.”
