Washington, D.C, January 12, 2023—At a moment when small businesses will play a pivotal role driving our economy forward and creating jobs, we at Accion Opportunity Fund look forward to working with Rep. Roger Williams (R-TX) — himself a small business owner and longtime small business champion — named as the incoming Chair of the House Small Business Committee for the 118th Congress.

Small businesses turn our towns into hometowns and neighbors into friends. And we know that Rep. Williams recognizes there’s nothing “small” about small businesses. They employ two-thirds of Americans in the private sector workforce and contribute 44% of GDP to the national economy each year, ensuring vibrant local economies and our global competitiveness.

Accion Opportunity Fund looks forward to working with members of the 118th Congress to expand access to capital, bring commonsense transparency to the small business credit markets, and promote greater financial inclusion by supporting Community Development Financial Institutions to scale without incurring additional regulatory burdens.

If we are to sustain a strong economic recovery, the nation’s small businesses must remain a central focus for federal policymakers. Rep. Williams understands this and we are ready to serve as a partner to him, Ranking Member Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY), and their colleagues to support our Main Streets heroes.
